CORRECTING UNDEREXPOSED IMAGESOpen an underexposed image and make a duplicate layer. Open this layer and in the layer palette change the mode from normal to screen. This will lighten the whole image. To adjust part of the image select the area you want to lighten in a layer. You can duplicate this process (Ctrl-J) as many time as is required to get the result you want. I find this process is a bit more controllable if you reduce the opacity to 75 or even 50%. Finally flatten the image. One problem associated with underexposure is the dreaded digital noise.
