Workshop Index   PS CS2 SHADOW / HIGHLIGHT TOOL

One of the most useful tools to get you out of trouble.

Image>adjustment>shadow/highlight

Usually used to open shadow detail this tool can also be used to put tone into highlight areas.

PS default is 50% shadow 0% highlight. These setting only affect the shadow areas.

My default is 20% shadow and highlight each with a tone width of 20% for each and a radius of 10

This does not over lighten shadows and applies a slight tone to highlights similar to the effect of using a traditional wet printing paper with a slight base tone.

There is a temptation to use the Brightness/Contrast control. DON'T this tool can irreversibly modify data from any file format, even Tiff, and is thus one to avoid. Use levels or curves instead.
